HipsterZOMBIEJoint New Music Friday Picks 11/1/19

Lots of great new music is hitting streaming services today! You can find these albums and more now streaming on Apple Music and Spotify. Check out this week’s picks below:

Phantom Rhythm – Gong Gong Gong

The Beijing-based post-punk duo stack garage instrumentation, Ali Farka Touré melodies, and dissonance without a whiff of the baroque. This is music that would be at home in any Tarantino movie.

Soul Trash – was Toro Y Moi

The 12-track release can now be heard in the players below and also arrives alongside a new short film. The half-hour piece was directed by Laneya Billingsley.

“Chaz Bear and I sought to create a vibrating immersive piece that mirrored the soft melancholic bounciness of the mixtape, making sure every delicate part was exactly how we envisioned,” Billingsley recalled in a statement. “We wanted the video to feel like a sort of tour through internal rooms led by Chaz our tour guide, or soul guide if you will. With a handheld controller, grinning from ear to ear, Chaz navigates the turbulent internal atmosphere searching for each intangible floaty room buried within, each holding a different sound, feeling and sublime visual experience.”

Terminator Dark Fate Soundtrack

The latest Terminator film pays homage to original film composer Brad Fiedel. Composer Tom Holkenborg adds to the iconic theme without compromising it or replacing it.

Crucifire – Desert Sessions

“Crucifire” is getting the featured treatment at the moment, with Royal Blood‘s Mike Kerr taking the lead on vocals, while joined by Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears with the backing “fire” bits. Other performers on the song include Chavez’s Matt Sweeney joining Homme on guitar and Autolux’s Carla Azar adding drums and synth lines.

Running All The Way Home – Spielbergs

“Running All The Way Home is a song about regret,” says vocalist/guitarist Mads Baklien. “You can’t undo what you’ve done. You can apologise to the people you’ve hurt all you want, you can promise to do better in the future, but it will not fix things. You will just have to wait it out and see what happens.”

Chase The Feeling – Wolfmother

“With Chris’s signature style drumming, rock speak and his old mate Jason Hills production wizardry, we managed to give one of my riffs a bit of a Hollywood nip and tuck, without over polishing the wild beast. Now it’s morphed into it’s own hybrid anthem for many future backyard cook ups and late night dive bar meanderings.”

Charlie’s Angels Soundtrack

It’s here. The female-charged Charlie’s Angels film is hitting theaters Nov. 15, but we can now listen to its Ariana Grande executive-produced soundtrack.

The 11-track album features Grande on five of them, including “How I Look on You,” and collabs with songwriting pal Victoria Monet on “Got Her Own,” Chaka Khan on “Nobody,” Normani and Nicki Minaj on “Bad to You” and with Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey on the previously-released “Don’t Call Me Angel.”
