Oh boy, so WB really does not have a clue on what to do with the Superman property. Changing a character’s race is less of a progressive move and more of a stunt begging for an audience to show up to your film that you don’t understand.
WB tried courting Creed star, Michael B. Jordan to be the next Superman. Now changing the skin color of the classic hero is fine as long as the story is good and they stay true to the character. But it looks like an act of desperation from the studio and would not translate in ticket sales. A move like this would alienate the fan base while hoping a new fan base might embrace this wildly different interpretation.
Now like I said, as long as there is a good story in place, a change like this could have worked. But Jordan had to back out of the project due to prior commitments. Oh and the fact WB is grounding any further Superman films until 2023. The studio just doesn’t get Superman and don’t know what to do with him.
Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is still wishing for another crack at the last son of Krypton, but with each passing year, the likelihood of that happening grows less and less.
