HipsterZOMBIEJoint Movie Review: Onward

Onward is a fun fantasy tale about family & dealing with loss

Pixar has done it again! The latest animated feature turns the concept of fantasy on its ear and delivers a rousing story of two brothers looking to spend one more day with their father who has passed via magic. It has some great laughs & tear jerking moments.

The film is directed by Dan Scanlon, produced by Kori Rae from a screenplay written by Scanlon, Jason Headley, and Keith Bunin, and stars the voices of Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer. Set in a suburban fantasy world, the film follows two elf brothers who set out on a quest to find an artifact that will bring back their deceased father.

Despite it being an animated film, Pratt and Holland have great chemistry as the two elf brothers, Ian and Barley. The film really gets heavy with the two siblings dealing with the loss of their father and really tugs at your heart. Still though the film is chalk full of laughs. The idea of technology overtaking magic in a fantasy world is both funny and an interesting concept that the movie really has a lot of fun with.

The CGI-animation is breathtaking, Pixar is so above and beyond the rest that it’s hard to really continue to say how good they are. But they still find a way to get even better as time goes on.

Onward suffered at the box office due to the Coronavirus outbreak that stalled its business at theaters. However, it can now be seen on VOD at home and the HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience really suggests you check it out.
