Leave it to Warner Bros and their one step forward two steps back DC COMICS CINEMATIC UNIVERSE. First it was revealed that Aquaman Actress, Amber Heard, who had been a shining light for the #metoo movement and the person who basically destroyed her ex-boyfriend, Johnny Depp’s career, had lied about her abuse.
As of this month, Depp is suing his ex-wife, claiming that she flipped the abuse in an “elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity…and advance her career”––a hoax that defamed him and damaged his career. The suit says Heard’s allegations “have been conclusively refuted by two separate responding police officers, a litany of neutral third-party witnesses, and 87 newly obtained surveillance camera videos” and says in no uncertain terms that “Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator.”
The suit details one incident where, after Depp had told Heard he wanted a divorce, Heard “lured” him back to their penthouse to pick up some of his stuff. Heard allegedly screamed, “Stop hitting me, Johnny,” with his security detail in earshot, attempting to portray a scene in which he was abusing her.
Now another DC COMICS actor is in the news for all the wrong reasons, Ezra Miller.
Despite confusion online over whether the video was a joke — with memes already emerging on Twitter, where Miller’s name has been trending — a source at the establishment, Prikið Kaffihús, has confirmed to Variety that this was a serious altercation at the bar, and that the man, whom they identify as Miller, was escorted off the premises.
The seven-second video shows a man saying, ”Oh, you wanna fight? That’s what you wanna do?” to a young woman, who appears to be jokingly preparing herself for a fight and is smiling.
Miller then grabs the girl by the throat, and throws her to the ground. At this point, the person filming says, “Woah, bro. Bro,” and stops shooting, with the footage ending abruptly.
Variety has confirmed the incident took place around 6 p.m. on April 1 at Prikið Kaffihús, a trendy bar in central Reykjavik that Miller frequents when he is in town. There have been no previous incidents involving the actor, who plays a pivotal role in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise and is set to play Barry Allen in the film version of D.C. Comics’ “The Flash.”
Now if I was Warner Bros, I’d remove him from a movie like the Flash, where he is supposed to be playing a hero. And with the wholesale changes the studio is currently doing with that cinematic universe now might be the time to do it. How they let a great spokesperson go (because they didn’t want to pay him) like Henry Cavill, and kept this flamboyant putz is beyond me.
Warner Bros decision making continues to be baffling as they let director Matt Reeves sit on the Batman reboot with star Robert Pattinson for almost two years. Meanwhile Wonder Woman 1984 which was supposed to arrive in theaters last June won’t arrive in theaters now until November or December. Shazam barely made an impact. Yes, Joker made a big splash for the studio with fans and critics alike. Even got Oscar love. But then they shit the bed with a Birds of Prey film that not only under delivered, it wasn’t funny, it lacked star power, and worst of all, the film took one of the few DC COMICS CINEMATIC UNIVERSE’S characters that people actually liked, Harley Quinn, and buried her with a shit film by a shit director, and a shit writer who doesn’t know anything about comedy. Yes, lets get unqualified females to shoot a DC film just so we can make headlines. Well they made headlines, worst box office opening for a DC Film. Jesus.
So back to Ezra, this guy needs to go. I respect what director Zack Snyder was trying to do with his casting, but it didn’t completely work. He casted an older Batman with a specific story in line. A story that didn’t include the Justice League. Ben Affleck was great as Batman, but he wasn’t the right choice for Batman for the universe they wanted to create. Henry Cavill has what it takes to be a great Superman (still) but you can’t have him moping and being sad and super serious all the time. Ray Fisher was a waste for Cyborg. They could have casted a plethora of other black actors that could have brought so much more to that character. Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot as Aquaman and Wonder Woman should not have worked as well as it did. Luckily WB let directors James Wan and Patty Jenkins let them have creative control of their films.
Now back to Miller, he never looked like the Flash, he never acted like the Flash. This guy never even looked like he knew how to run. Now he pulls a stunt like this and not only puts himself in a bad light, but he also doesn’t even put the DC brand in a good light. Unlike Marvel Studios, who has actors that don’t choke out the fans, DC doesn’t really have a good spokesperson. Gal Gadot is doing what she can, but they can’t pushing her film back. The biggest continued issue is the studio has no idea what to do with their DC Comics characters. The last “brainstorm” idea they had was to make Superman black. Yup, people who make a lot of money to in a room and pitch ideas could only come up with an idea to place the race card. So where does the DC Universe go now that its just a big jumbled mess?
The real story here is how important The Flash is to Warner Brothers in officially resetting the Justice League in a new DCEU. FandomWire has exclusively spoken to sources involved with the film, to confirm that the events of the new film have Barry racing back through time to save his mother. However, when he comes back through the speed force after altering time, forever adjustments to the DCEU will be made.
While the Justice League is mentioned by name in the script, no other heroes are featured. And when Barry comes back through time, the Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League movies will be gone. Wonder Woman and Aquaman will remain cast as is, but Robert Pattinson’s The Batman will be one of a few new characters incorporated into this new resetted timeline.
While it’s still up in the air whether Ezra Miller will return as The Flash, we do know Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Neighbors 2) is still up for Iris West, and Andy Muschietti (IT) is still on to direct the script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey).
We’ve exclusively confirmed the two villains of this Flash movie are Reverse Flash and Mirror Master. While its exciting to hear that Warner Brothers and DC are finally making a plan… FandomWire also hears that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam will not really factor into this reset. And given how many Justice Society members we exclusively reported will be in Black Adam, it will be interesting to see all these superhero stories pan out.
