Despite a lackluster solo effort with the less than stellar Birds of Prey film earlier this year, Warner Bros is tossing around the idea of another Harley Quinn film.
Per Comic Book News:
According to DCEU Mythic‘s Jeremy Conrad, the studio has begun early discussions on where Harley Quinn will appear next in the DC Extended Universe. Of course, this could mean Harley Quinn could star in her own solo movie, or take part in another ensemble feature like this year’s Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
Robbie first appeared as Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad by director David Ayer. After the character’s popularity skyrocketed, there were reports of teaming Harley Quinn up with Jared Leto’s Joker for a film co-starring the duo. Harley Quinn was also slated to appear in a Gotham City Sirens film from Suicide Squad‘s Ayer. Gotham City Sirens would have seen Harley Quinn join Catwoman and Poison Ivy to battle Gotham City’s greatest villains. Instead, Robbie’s character pivoted over to Birds of Prey.
We will next see Harley Quinn pop up in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in 2021. Harley Quinn is still a beloved character but she needs to be way funnier than what she was in Birds of Prey, a film that not only fell flat with audiences but was also quite boring for large chunks of it. The next solo effort needs a writer/director who knows comedy. Whether it’s a man or female.
