Warner Bros has a plan for their upcoming slate of DC Films, but after a slew of false starts and films being stuck in development hell, that plan will not be known to fans prematurely. Like in times past. After all, by this point we were originally supposed to have Justice League 2, Flash, Cyborg, and a new Green Lantern film.
But let’s look to the future. A future that looks dark. And that’s not a bad thing. JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot film company in association with WB are developing films based on fan favorite magic wielders, Zatanna & Constantine. Members of the Justice League Dark, a team comprised of DC’s magical heroes and heroines.
If the Zatanna film happens it will mark Zatanna’s first live-action DCEU film debut and first-ever solo outing. She has appeared on numerous DC animated shows and even appeared in live-action form on Smallville.
Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna Zatara made her first appearance in the Hawkman comic books in November 1964. She is the daughter of a famous stage magician named Giovanni Zatara, who have debuted during the Golden Age of Comics. Naturally, Zatanna inherited his father’s magical powers and career as a professional stage magician. Some of her cool powers are the ability to control the elements, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, and manipulation of reality.
As for Constantine, Rumors of a Constantine sequel has reared its head every now and again over the years, largely down to the continued popularity of star Keanu Reeves and his admission that he’d love to play the role again. At this stage, it hasn’t been announced if the reboot will involve the John Wick star or not, but you’d assume that the studio would be keen to secure his services and there’s been a lot of speculation that he’ll return.
It hasn’t been confirmed if the big screen Constantine will be connected to the HBO Max series in any way, but with DC keen to expand their multiverse, the possibility of having cinema’s Keanu Reeves and television’s Matt Ryan both reprising their versions of the character at the same time can’t completely be ruled out.
