One of the biggest and latest disappointments to stink up the DCEU was the Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey film that not only failed to take flight at the box office, it flat out tanked. The Margot Robbie spin-off Harley Quinn film that saw the character try and make a life of her own won’t be getting a sequel. And good riddance. Like I said, Harley is funny. Funnier than Deadpool. Just look at the animated series on DC Universe.
Indie director Cathy Yan, producer Margot Robbie, & writer Christina Hodson put out a bland and boring insult to the character. How do you have a Harley film THAT ISN’T FUCKING FUNNY?!?
Don’t even get me started on the horrible castings of Black Canary and Huntress. Their costumes, like everyone else in the film, was such a damn eye sore that the film was hard to watch most of the time. Not to mention how do we have a Gotham that looks like the lamest parts of Los Angeles with no mention of Batman or any of his other foes? Who at Warner Bros is still okay with shit like this hitting the big screen?!?!?!?
Per Cosmic Book News:
It is being reported a Margot Robbie Birds of Prey sequel has been canceled, which should come as no surprise seeing how the movie completely tanked at the box office.
The info comes from Giant Freakin Robot who offers up the same sources that filled them in about the confirmed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds series that is happening also filled them in that Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie is dead at WB.
The site offers a Birds of Prey 2 has been in the works, but it has been scrapped and everyone associated with the project has moved on.
It’s further said that WB “no longer believes in the concept or in the creative team behind the movie.”
As pointed out, Margot Robbie and her Birds of Prey writer, Christina Hodson, will be attempting to carry over their same approach to a new Disney Pirates of the Caribbeanmovie.
Robbie was the producer on Birds of Prey and spearheaded the new direction of Harley Quinn, again which turned out to be an utter disaster for a character that was supposed to star in multiple DC movies.
It’s also been said the planned Gotham City Sirens movie is on hold as well.
Margot Robbie next stars as Harley Quinn for James Gunn in The Suicide Squad.
Hopefully we will be able to see Harley actually be funny again with a COMPETENT writer and director at the helm of the film.
