HipsterZOMBIEJoint Movie Review: 1BR

The scariest thing about a crazy cult is that sometimes they make sense. Such is the case with the horror suspense film, 1BR.

The film follows Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom) who scores the perfect Hollywood apartment. She is new to the big city after fleeing a traumatic family ordeal. But something is not right in her new apartment . Unable to sleep, tormented by strange noises and threatening notes, her new life quickly starts to unravel. By the time she learns the horrifying truth, it’s too late. Caught in a waking nightmare, Sarah must find the strength to hold onto her crumbling sanity…or be trapped forever in an existential hell.

At first the cult seem nice, even non threatening, but if you lie, cheat, or steal, you face corporal punishment. But all have to endure extensive “re-education” to break down individuality to become more of a hive mentality. Their methods go from Saw like tactics to almost Scientology-like forced learning.

Sarah plays along as much as she can until her only friend she met in town gets swept up in the cult and at an initiation Sarah is forced into a marriage with another tenant.

When Sarah is put in a position by the cult leader that she must kill her friend, Sarah finally decides to kill her oppressor and make a run for it.

The film is a creepy, slow paced thriller about the complete and total breakdown of one person’s individuality and assimilation into corrupt way of thinking that hides behind unity and crooked smiles.

HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience recommends checking out 1BR.
