HipsterZOMBIEJoint New Music Friday Picks 8/7/20

Lots of great new albums are dropping today to get us rockin’ through the weekend! All of these albums and more are now streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.

Everlasting – Loyal Lobos

Per I-D:

The album is a triumph for Silva, whose ability to translate sorrow into uplifting, feminist pop tunes places her in the company of Sky Ferreira and Lana Del Rey. She attributes this to the way she was introduced to music — as both a salve and a remedy for other people’s grief. “At funerals, it’s sad but you see all this love and compassion. That’s why sadness is a recurring theme in my music because in a way, I find it familiar,” she says.

Purple Noon – Washed Out

Per Riff Magazine:

The album pays homage to smooth music operators like Sade, ’80s-era Phil Collins and is heavy on melodramatic balladry that suits the windswept, luscious (and lusty) stories of flings, broken hearts, reconnection and isolation. All of Purple Noon is cloaked in gauzy synths and Washed Out’s equally gauzy vocals, which evenly coat the rest of the instrumentation most of the time without letting any one instrument other than the percussion stand out tie above. The album is like a weighted blanket that keeps you comfortable as the ocean rocks you back and forth.

Hunter Gatherer – Avatar

Per Side Stage Magazine:

A striking and bold manifesto, Hunter Gatherer, is an unflinchingly ruthless study of a clueless humankind’s ever-increasing velocity into an uncertain future, furthering the reach of the band’s always expanding dark roots. Recorded entirely to two-inch tape with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax), Hunter Gatherer exhibits everything that makes AVATAR standouts in the vast, rich landscape of heavy metal’s past and present.
