HipsterZOMBIEJoint New Music Friday Picks 8/28/20

Lots of great new albums are dropping today to get us rockin’ through the weekend! All of these albums and more are now streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.

Bill & Ted Face The Music Soundtrack

Per HipsterZOMBIEJoint:

The Wyld Stallyns Are Back and they have brought with them a kickasstic assortment of new rocks songs from bands like Weezer and Mastodon. It’s a most excellent soundtrack for headbangers and rockers to jam out to.

Smile – Katy Perry

Per Pitchfork:

Smile is meant to be a “picture of RESILIENCE & GRATITUDE,” Perry writes in the liner notes. Those capital letters—the sense that someone is shouting at you—come through in the music. “Yeah, I’m thankful/Scratch that, baby, I’m graaateful,” she croons in the title song. “I am resilient!” she belts on another, six times in two minutes. “It’s not the end of the world!” she promises over a flailing disco beat, before launching into a pseudo-rap about a fortune teller and “flipping off the flop.”

Club Future Nostalgia (DJ Mix) Dua Lipa

Per NME:

‘Club Future Nostalgia’ is a pick-and-mix bag that flits between modern pop, ’80s soul and floor-filling house. There are moments of total euphoria – the jubilant opener from Joe Goddard, who adds his own twist onto title track with Hot Chip-style synths and Daft Punk-inspired whirrs, is the sound of a secret Glastonbury DJ set at 3am. Horse Meat Disco’s take on ‘Love Again’ is equally exhilarating, filled with strutting beats and funk-laced instrumentals. There are moments of icy coolness alongside this, too, as when Yaeji reimagines ‘Don’t Start Now’, fusing the bombastic pop with stonking trap and house, turning it into the sound of pranging out at a rave in the early hours of the morning.

S&M2 – Metallica

Per Louder:

S&M2 easily outguns its predecessor. Forgoing the easy path, it’s weighted towards the less-loved second half of Metallica’s career. Songs such as the perpetually underrated The Outlaw and a bravura The Day That Never Comes are invested with new grandeur; even All Within My Hands, from 2003’s reviled St Anger, sounds tremendous; and the ever-astounding No Leaf Clover is the greatest Metallica song never to appear on one of their studio albums.

Come back next week for a fresh batch of new music Friday picks only on the HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience!
