Blumhouse’s remake of the classic 1990s witch film, The Craft, is arriving on Amazon Prime just in time for Halloween on October 27th. The remake sticks to the original plot, following a group of high schoolers who form a coven of witches, but this time around, we’ve got an updated cast. The Craft coming to Prime Video next month stars Michelle Monaghan, David Duchovny and Cailee Spaeny, and comes from director Zoe Lister-Jones, who also wrote the new screenplay. News of the reboot was first revealed in 2019, and the project began filming last October.
The original version of The Craft starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True as the coven of teen witches. Tunney played Sarah, the lead of the film and the new girl at a Catholic school who meets and befriends a group of magic-practicing students who use spells to get revenge on those who’ve wronged them. While it initially received mixed reviews, it’s gone on to become a fan favorite, gaining a devoted following over the years. You can’t go into a Hot Topic without seeing a ton of The Craft merch. It really hit the cultural zeitgeist at the time and Blumhouse is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle twice.
