John Carpenter might not be behind the camera anymore but he still hard at work creating new dark and ominous music. Carpenter’s scores for Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, and Escape from New York (just to name a few) are driving forces behind those films. The music is almost a character into its own right.
“We begin with a theme, a bass line, a pad, something that sounds good and will lead us to the next layer,” John Carpenter said in a statement about their creative process. “We then just keep adding on from there. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now than it was in the beginning. We’ve matured.”
Carpenter has delivered two frightfully good Lost Themes albums (Lost Themes and Lost Themes II) he even came out with a remix album for Lost Themes II.
His new album, Lost Themes III: Alive After Death will be released on February 5, 2020 via Sacred Bones Records, Carpenter’s first album of non-soundtrack music in nearly five years! The first track from the upcoming album is “Weeping Ghost” which you can listen to below:
