HBO Max/John Cena Series “Peacemaker” Begins To Fill Out Its Cast

HBO Max’s Peacemaker is assembling its squad. The spinoff to James Gunn’s Warner Brosl/DC upcoming movie The Suicide Squad has added some very impressive talent.

Orange is the New Black’s actress Danielle Brooks has reportedly been cast as Leota Adebayo. Additionally, Jennifer Holland will reportedly reprise her role as Emilia Harcourt in the PEACEMAKER series, alongside DCEU newcomers Robert Patrick and Chris Conrad as Adrian Chase aka The Vigilante.

Peacemaker stars John Cena, reprising his role from The Suicide Squad. He plays a man believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. Steve Agee also stars as John Economos.

Gunn, whose The Suicide Squad is set for Aug. 6, 2021, wrote all eight episodes of the series, and is directing multiple episodes, including the first.

For the uninitiated, Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat so committed to peace that he was willing to use force as a superhero to advance the cause. He uses an array of special non-lethal weapons, and also founds the Pax Institute. Most of the villains he goes up against are dictators and warlords.

Smith later learns that his peace-through-violence efforts were the result of a serious mental illness brought on by the shame of having a Nazi death camp commandant for a father. He believes his father’s spirit haunts him continually and criticizes his every move, even as he tries to live down his past.

No release date for the series has been set at this time.
