Toho’s most famous star, Godzilla, will be stomping his way onto America shores via new comic book deal with IDW Publishing.
IDW Publishing and Toho International, Inc. have announced a multi-year partnership that will see the iconic kaijū — along with Rodan, King Ghidorah, Mothra and many more monsters — appear across a line of publishing projects, including comic books, art books, journals, puzzles and coloring books over the next few years. IDW will have worldwide distribution for these projects, with the exception of certain Asian markets.
The partnership follows a number of Godzillaprojects from IDW from 2011 through 2016, including Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the critically acclaimed Godzilla: The Half-Century War.
“IDW has been such a fantastic partner in bringing Godzilla characters to life through high-quality graphic storytelling, and we’re excited to take our relationship to the next level,” said Lora Cohn, managing director, Toho International, Inc. “By expanding beyond comics with wide-ranging books, games and more, we’re sure that our iconic kaiju will leave monstrous marks on these products that consumers across the globe, young and old, will never forget.”
The launch project for the partnership will be a five-issue Godzilla comic book series by Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado, aimed at middle grade readers, to launch digitally and in comic stores April 2021.
