Why Tech Giants Canceling One Way Of Thinking Could Eventually Cripple Our Society

The biggest headline over the past weekend (besides the Kanye/Kim Divorce/Separation) was the blocking of President Donald Trump from both Facebook and Twitter.

Per USA Today:

Twitter has permanently banned President Trump, citing the risk that he would incite further violence.

“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” the company said late Friday.

Twitter, which had locked Trump out of his account Wednesday for inflammatory posts after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, lifted the suspension the following day.

Late Thursday, Trump posted a short video in which he pledged to support a peaceful transition of power.

Now that hardly sounds like a man who wants to start a second Civil War. Say what you will about his ethics and his ability to tell the truth or not, but banning someone from social media is a step in a wrong and dangerous direction. Shortly after Trump was banned, Youtube, Amazon, and Apple banned other conservative voices from their applications as well as the right wing ran social media app, Parler.

Parler had been surging in popularity as an alternative to the aforementioned liberal ran social media sites that have been targeting conservative voices. CNN reports the site had been a breeding ground for participants in the Capitol riots. However, CNN DID NOT report sites like Twitter and Facebook being breeding grounds for Antifa/BLM planned riots throughout the summer that involved destruction of property, stealing, and urged violence against law enforcement and destruction of historical monuments.

Now, what is the difference between Trump and the liberal media during both horrific events? Trump (who did have a small part in fueling the Capitol riots) condemned it hours after. Liberal media and soon to be President, Joe Biden, spent the summer approving of the riots and only in recent months condemned it. Both sides stood by and did little until the destruction they either encouraged or fueled was over. However, only one side is getting banned and shut out in the media, entertainment, and social media.

You can’t condemn one and then lift up the other. Silencing voices, whether you agree with them or not is a dangerous trend that could lead to an America no one wants to live in. It’s bad enough there is a coalition of online trolls who will DOX you if you choose to be outspoken about your beliefs on social platforms and rat you out to human resources at your job. Now social media wants to choose who we listen to and follow? Whats next? They start banning regular people for life? The government starts banning conservative businesses and institutions? And what happens when they are done blocking the conservative voices? Who do “they” turn on after that? Are we at a point now that freedom of speech is a luxury for some only?

We are at a turning point in our country and so far we are headed down a very, very dark path that is only going to end up worse unless we stop freedom of speech from becoming a crime.

You can’t condone one way of thinking and criminalize the other. You just can’t. This way of thinking created the Nazi party. It fuels North Korea. It is the blueprint for Socialism that always ends up transforming into Communism. That isn’t the American way. No matter what you believe or how wrong people are, they should always have freedom of speech. And let me just end on this once again, no side is completely right. No side is completely wrong. To believe so, well…
