HipsterZOMBIEJoint New Music Friday Picks 1/22/21

Lots of great new albums are dropping today to get us rockin’ through the weekend! All of these albums and more are now streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.

Lo Vas A Olvidar (single) Billie Eilish & Rosalia

Per Vogue:

The surprise collaboration embodies the vibe-y, soulful sound that both of their music is known for. Produced by Eilish’s brother and close collaborator, Finneas, the track will be part of Euphoria’s “Part Two: Jules” soundtrack releasing later this week.

Typhoons (single) Royal Blood

Per Kerrang:

The Brighton duo’s upcoming full-length is due out on April 30 via Warner Records, with the mesmerising and brilliantly dancey title-track. “We sort of stumbled on this sound, and it was immediately fun to play,” frontman Mike Kerr says. “That’s what sparked the creativity on the new album, the chasing of that feeling. It’s weird, though – if you think back to Figure it Out, it kind of contains the embryo of this album.

Citizen (single) Sir Sly feat. Gary Clark Jr.

Sir Sly and Clark Jr. created an incredibly dynamic track by intertwining their music styles. While the indie-rock aspect of Sir Sly is utilized as the base of the entire song, Clark Jr. heavily comes in towards the end to show off his rock-blues crossover skills. The blend of Clark Jr.’s guitar solo with Sir Sly’s sound gives the track an energetic and spirited atmosphere, which helps set the focus on the importance of the song.

All My Favorite Songs (single) Weezer

Per Stereogum:

Album opener “All My Favorite Songs” is charming and engaging enough to suggest the idea of Weezer recording with a 38-piece orchestra at Abbey Road might actually have been a good idea. The song strikes a pleasing balance between chipper music and melancholy lyrics, landing squarely in Weezer’s radio-friendly zone without feeling entirely corny or sterile. It was preceded by a playlist of the same name, which contained tearjerkers from Johnny Cash, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Céline Dion, and others. This makes a lot of sense upon hearing Rivers Cuomo exclaim, “All my favorite songs are slow and sad/ I don’t know what’s wrong with me!”

Come back next week for a fresh batch of new music picks only on the HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience!
