When Wonder Woman ‘77 came out it was a hit amongst long time fans of Lynda Carter and 70s aesthetic. The same can be said for Batman ‘66 that brought back the wholesome good fun of the Adam West & Burt Ward adventures.
Now it appears DC Comics will be delving even further into nostalgia with a return to 1978’s Christopher Reeves’ Superman and Michael Keaton’s 1989 Batman.
Batman ’89 is written by Sam Hamm and illustrated by Joe Quinones while Superman ’78 is written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Wilfredo Torres. Both titles will debut six digital chapters on July 27, with six additional chapters arriving weekly after that. Once all 12 chapters of each story have been released, they’ll be collected in six traditional comics released between August and October and then as hardcover collected editions in October for Batman ’89 and November for Superman ’78.
The first chapters of Batman ’89, by Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones, and Superman ’78, by Robert Venditti and Wilfredo Torres, go on sale July 27 from DC.
