Composer Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) has released the first two tracks from the colossal monster mashup, Godzilla Vs Kong soundtrack.
The first track is Godzilla’s new theme titled Pensacola, Florida. Ditching the amazing reimagined Akira Ifukube Godzilla March used in Godzilla King of the Monsters (by composer Bear McCreary) the new theme is an ominous borderline villainous sounding theme. It really paints Godzilla as the antagonist this time around. Check it out below:
Kong’s theme on the other hand, titled Skull Island, has a much more heroic theme while maintaining an animalistic tribal sound. Kong after all is the protagonist in this film and the underdog going into a fight with a radioactive dinosaur who is practically impervious to most things (he took a nuclear blast to the face in KOTM and just got stronger). However, Kong is armed with an axe embedded with a shard of Godzilla’s spinal spike that might even the odds. Check out Kong’s theme below:
The duel between two of film’s most iconic, gigantic, and beloved monsters will hopefully be as epic as the trailers have made it look, and an epic battle needs some epic music to go along with it. Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled for an international release on March 24 and a U.S. release on March 31, both in theaters and on HBO Max.
