Fair warning, this video will give you goosebumps and might even make you cry. The late great Eddie Van Halen was one of the top 3 greatest guitarists of all time. His death sent shockwaves throughout the rock community. But he was also a father whose passing affected his family in a much more personal way. Through his band Mammoth WVH, Eddie’s son, Wolfgang Van Halen penned as stirring and emotional goodbye song to his father with the single “Distance” from their forth coming album.
The song couldn’t come at a more fitting time. As we as a nation try to move on from a harsh epidemic, many of us have lost family members, friends, or have been separated from loved ones for so long.
Halen had this to say about the track, Distance:
“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.”
Proceeds from “Distance” will be donated to Pop’s favorite charity, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation MHOpus.org
