Lots of great new albums are dropping today to get us rockin’ through the weekend! All of these albums and more are now streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.
DANCING WITH THE DEVIL; THE ART OF STARTING OVER – DEMI LOVATO
Demi Lovato has dropped her seventh album, Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over, featuring collaborations with Ariana Grande, Saweetie, and Noah Cyrus. The album chronicles Lovato’s recovery from her 2018 overdose and her continuing struggle with addiction and mental health. It is, according to Lovato, a “non-official soundtrack” to her confessional YouTube documentary, which is titled just Dancing with the Devil. Lovato also dropped the music video for the album’s title track on Thursday night. Featuring 19 songs in total, the album opens with the heartbreaking ballad “Anyone,” which Lovato performed at the 2020 Grammys, and includes a powerful cover of Tears for Fears’s “Mad World.” According to Lovato, the double title of the album reflects its segmented nature — the opening songs deal with Lovato’s feelings during her overdose, while the closing songs reflect her recovery and future. Grande features on the whispery “Met Him Last Night,” and Saweetie on the Billie Eilish-esque “My Girlfriends are My Boyfriend.”
BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION – HAUNT
Beautiful Distraction is a blistering, but also melodic, classic metal record. Church assembled six new songs along with four re-recordings for the album. The songs stack up well with the rest of the Haunt catalogue to create a must-own for anyone who loves classic metal. This album is worth it to purchase just for the artwork and likely interesting vinyl options alone.
THUNDER FORCE THEME (single) COREY TAYLOR, LIZZY HALE, TINA GUO
Rock and metal legends Corey Taylor, Lzzy Hale, Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo have teamed up with composer Fil Eisler and musician Tina Guo for Thunder Force, the lead single from the soundtrack to the upcoming Netflix film of the same name – and, according to Anthrax titan Scott, it “kicks fucking ass”.Ahead of the movie’s premiere on April 9, Thunder Force (the song) has been shared via Milan Records, with Slipknot’s Corey enthusing: “It was awesome to work on this track with Lzzy and be a part of the film Thunder Force. It is always nice to be creative and work with other artists in the community – especially during this extended time at home. I’m excited for everyone to hear the song and see the film!”
THE MEN WHO RULE THE WORLD (single) GARBAGE
Described as an “incendiary indictment and call to arms”, the new single acts as a “critique of the rise of capitalist short-sightedness, racism, sexism and misogyny across the world”. With the return of Garbage comes the return of tasty guitar parts, of which The Men Who Rule The World has plenty. Boasting a collection of decorative bends, dissonant twangs and rapid-fire percussive trills, the clean sounds soon give way to a pumping, gain-infused electric guitar that drives the chorus along with a series of punchy power chords.
