After many false starts and constant delays, there is finally some new info about the next big screen Star Trek film.
Per Yahoo Finance:
Paramount Pictures has announced a June 9th, 2023 release date for an untitled Star Trek film, according to Variety. Last month, the studio hired Star Trek: Discovery writer Kalinda Vazquez to pen the script for a movie based on an original idea of hers, but it’s unclear if that’s the same project.
Whether Paramount sticks to that date remains to be seen. There have been several attempts to make a follow up to Star Trek: Beyond over the last few years, including one from Quentin Tarantino, but none have panned out as yet.
Between now and the next movie coming out, fans will have several new seasons of Star Trek shows to check out on Paramount+. Discovery and Lower Decks will return later this year, while the second season of Star Trek: Picard will arrive in 2022.
The last Trek film which involved the alternate reality’s original crew with actor Chris Pine was a long five years ago. Despite Star Trek Beyond being an enjoyable film, the third entry into the JJ Abrams franchise was a flop at the box office.
However, as mentioned earlier, the franchise has found new life on the Paramount + network with 3 new shows and more on the way.
