You haven’t seen an action movie until you have seen Christopher Lloyd eviscerate two thugs with a double barrel shotgun.
Nobody is a dark comedy action thrillerfilm directed by Ilya Naishuller and written by Derek Kolstad. The film stars Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Aleksei Serebryakov, RZA, Michael Ironside, Colin Salmon, and Christopher Lloyd, and follows a man who, while following clues regarding his recent home invasion, helps an underaged girl being harassed by a group of men, only to become the target of a vengeful drug lord. Odenkirk and David Leitch are among the film’s producers.
The film is like a modern day remake of Falling Down with a hint John Wick. The film is a more of a dark comedy than full on action drama. Odenkirk who plays the average family man, Hutch Mansell kills the wrong street punk and is thrown into a war with a Russian drug lord. Unbeknownst to the Russians, Odenkirk shares a dark past. He describes his old profession as an “auditor” for every major form government. A boogeyman of sorts. The last person anyone wants to see on his door step. What’s so endearing about Hutch is that he isn’t an invincible protagonist. Like a John McClaine he gets beaten up, shot, stabbed and more but he is relentless. Aiding him throughout the film is his not quite feeble father, played by Christopher Lloyd and his adopted brother, played by the rapper RZA. The film is gloriously bloody and violent but not too over the top with it. Even at the climax of the film which kind of turns into a “Home Alone” meets “SAW” kind of third act, Nobody doesn’t stray too far from being grounded in reality.
Odenkirk reportedly spent 2 years learning the action choreography for the film’s major action scenes. The fight scenes are brutally real too. The bus scene that sets the story in motion is so violent you don’t know whether to whence or nervously laugh.
Nobody is a fun, action packed film that sits perfectly next to other films in this action genre like John Wick and Atomic Blonde. The HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience highly recommends you devour the violent insanity that is Nobody that is playing in theaters and streaming on VOD.
