Marvel Studios has cast a pair of queens (potentially) in the upcoming Sam Jackson/Nick Fury and the Skrulls Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarkeand The Crown star Olivia Colmanare in talks to join the upcoming sci-fi series.
Per Entertainment Weekly:
We don’t know yet which roles Clarke and Colman are in talks for, so maybe it’s too optimistic to hope we’ll see them in Skrull makeup. But Secret Invasion is set to explore the alien shapeshifters who made their MCU debut in 2019’s Captain Marvelbefore popping up again in the post-credits scenes for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jackson’s Nick Fury appeared in both of those, so it’s not too surprising that he’s re-upping his role for the new series. Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the Skrull Talos, is also set to appear in Secret Invasion, along with One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir, who will play an as-yet-unknown villain.
In the comics the Skrulls replaced various super-humans beginning with Spider-Woman (replaced after being lured in by a fake attempt by the Skrulls to restore her powers), Hank Pym, Black Bolt, Elektra, various agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,Edwin Jarvis,Dum Dum Dugan, etc. The Skrulls master plan intended on implanting a Skrull in every superhero team, which they managed to achieve with all but two teams.
It will be interesting to see how the story plays out in the MCU considering that up to this point, the Skrulls have been presented as sympathetic aliens and not the mischievous intergalactic spies comic fans know them as.
No release date for Secret Invasion had been set at this time.
