Marvel Studios knew what they were doing when they cast an actor like Anthony Mackie in the role of Falcon. They were setting the foundation for something much bigger.
I mean who would have thought years ago we would be here with a live action black actor as Captain America?!? And how awesome did that suit look? Right out of the comic!
In the wake of Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s season finale last night on Disney+, the series showrunner, Malcolm Spellman, is already busy with Dalan Musson on a fourth Captain America.
While not confirmed sources say the project Spellman is writing could be one focused on Mackie’s Sam Wilson character while the possible Chris Evans Captain America project would be separate.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which also stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier, has earned strong critical and fan reaction. Spellman assembled a nearly all-Black writers room for the series, which has been praised for bringing the Black experience to the forefront quite unlike any other superhero film or TV show before it.
It remains to be seen how the events of the show will factor into the as-yet-untitled Captain America 4, but the finale left several threads unresolved, including — major spoiler alert, again! — John Walker’s debut as U.S. Agent, the reveal that Sharon Carter is the Power Broker, and the introduction of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ mysterious Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Good thing we haven’t seen the last of everyone’s favorite Star-Spangled Man with a Plan.
Captain America 4 joins several other MCU projects focused on a returning, or legacy character. Taika Waititi is currently filming Thor: Love and Thunder starring Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson’s long-awaited Black Widow solo movie will finally be released this summer.
What do you think? Would you like to see Mackie star as Caprain America in a feature film? Let us know in the comments.
