I have been very hesitant about reporting this story about the Netflix Marvel shows joining the MCU. Look we all miss Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher and Luke Cage (no one misses Iron Fist) but we have all for the most part put to bed the notion of ever seeing them in the MCU. Then rumors starting flaring up here and there that Disney plus might bring them back and I believe it’s about 85% confirmed actor Charlie Cox will be reprising the role of Matt Murdock for a cameo in the next Spider-Man film. But now these rumors about some of the other Netflix Marvel heroes crossing over into the MCU is once again heating up the rumor mill.
A post on That Hastag Show speculated that actors Jon Bernthal, Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Krysten Ritter would reprise their roles as the Punisher, Daredevil, Kingpin and Jessica Jones, respectively, in upcoming Disney+ TV shows or MCU films during Phase 4 and Phase 5.
Kingpin (D’Onofrio) is said to make his official MCU debut in the Jeremy Renner Hawkeye series coming to Disney Plus. Ritter is said to be making a cameo as Jessica Jones in an upcoming Disney Plus series (possibly She-Hulk). Bernthal is also rumored for a Disney Plus series cameo but it’s unknown on what show.
The two omissions are of course Luke Cage and Iron Fist who will both be recast. Which is a damn shame (about Luke Cage that is) because Mike Colter was great in the role. But, a rumor has recently suggested a source who’s reportedly close to Marvel Studios has since informed me that Kevin Feige is very keen on bringing Mike Colter back to the MCU as Luke Cage. Here’s what they said according to small-screen.com:
I can’t say exactly how it’s going to happen, but Luke Cage is going to make an MCU appearance and Feige wants Colter to come back to play him.
Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the interview that Mike Colter did with ComingSoon.net a few months back in which he claimed that he hadn’t been contacted by Marvel Studios “whatsoever” for a possible return as Luke Cage in the MCU. Here’s what the actor said in that interview:
I got to say, I rarely think about it in the sense of what could be or will be, I know fans are eager to see something with the character…I know I established him and it was an honor to do that, but I don’t know what the future holds, I’m just in my mode of doing Evil right now and a few films on hiatus. If something happens, I’d love to have a conversation with them, but for now I’m not holding my breath, I’m happy either way, it was a good run.
As for backstories and supporting characters, MCU will not reference them and they will most likely be recast at some point.
Are you looking forward to seeing the Marvel Netflix characters back in the MCU?
