This is some pretty sad news for fans of this musical comedy that was one of the most unique shows on network television.
Per News Reelz:
NBC has decided to cancel Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist after two seasons.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist suffered from lackluster linear Live+Same Day ratings but its digital showing was said to be quite good. This is why it seemed like a sure thing it was moving to NBC’s Peacock streaming service but the higher ups decided to not pick up the show to save it for a third season. The is now being shopped to other platforms.
Last year a season two renewal seemed unlikely but NBC, Lionsgate TV, & Universal TV worked out a business framework to make a renewal feasible. During that time, the show was also a solid digital performer, which led to the show getting a second season. The big question for its passionate fanbase will be why did Peacock pass this up? The show seems perfect for streaming & already has a strong digital footprint. They may have some explaining to do.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist followed Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy), a whip-smart computer coder forging her way through San Francisco. After an unusual event, Zoey suddenly starts to head the innermost wants, thoughts, and desires of the people around her, through popular songs. The series also stars Peter Gallagher, Alex Newell, and Skylar Astin.
