Nine years ago, the original Gossip Girl website shut down. But after a new generation of New York’s young elite takes control of private school Constance Billard, the notorious blogger remerges as the number one source into their scandalous lives.
A sequel and soft reboot of the television series Gossip Girl(2007–2012), developed by original series’ executive producer Joshua Safran, executive produced by original series’ co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, along with Safran, who also serves as showrunner. The series features the return of Kristen Bell as the narrator, an unknown, omniscient blogger known as “Gossip Girl”. It is set to be released on HBO Max on July 8, 2021.
The series is also slated to be more diverse, with nonwhite leads and LGBT characters.
In regard to continuity, executive producer and showrunner Joshua Safran stated that it is officially in the same continuity of the original Gossip Girl series. However, rather than a direct continuation of the story, it is instead set in the same world where previous characters existed and can be freely referenced and potentially reappear, but stars a different set of characters from a different point of view.
