After the success of John Wick every studio it seems like wants their own ultra violent anti hero or heroine kicking a diverse amount of ass. Enter Netflix’s Kate!
Kate is a 2021 American action thriller film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and written by Umair Aleem. The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Miku Martineau, Woody Harrelson, Tadanobu Asano, Michiel Huisman, Miyavi, and Jun Kunimura. The film follows Kate (Winstead), an assassin, whose mentor and handler (Harrelson) assigns her to kill a high-ranking yakuza boss. During Kate’s final mission, she finds out that she has been poisoned and only has 24 hours to live, so she uses her last hours to get revenge and find out who set her up.
Winstead is a force of nature here inflicting convincing brutality and taking it. The fight choreography is amazing and the action is very, very violent. Set in the neon drenched streets of Japan, Winstead plays Kate who is taken in by Varrick and trained to a ruthless assassin. When a job goes sideways, Kate wants to retire, however her target has other plans.
The film has remarkable set pieces that are on par if not equal to classic hard broiled action films like Old Boy and The Raid.
The film has an interesting although not shocking twist towards the end but it creates one grand finale of a shoot em’ up that will leave you wanting more.
HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience highly recommends checking out the action thriller, Kate, which is now streaming on Netflix.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a pure badass in Netflix’s Kate!
