The latest episode of Disney Plus Marvel animated series, “What If” gave fans their first look at Marvel Zombies made famous from the marvel comics series and its subsequent spin-offs. Now, nothing has been confirmed, but early rumblings are pointing to a live action Marvel Zombies film sooner than later. But don’t hold your breath.
Acclaimed comic book author and industry insider Mark Millar claims that Marvel Studios may be developing a live-action adaptation of Marvel Zombies. This news comes off the heels of the latest episode of Marvel’s What If…? — titled “What If… Zombies!?” — which offered audiences their first glimpse of what an undead pandemic could look like within the Marvel universe. Despite the relatively short run time, the episode’s writers managed to incorporate several references and plot points from the original 2006 Marvel Zombies comic series written by Robert Kirkman.
In his personal newsletter (via CBR), Millar claims that “(if my sources are correct) a little live-action Marvel Zombies further down the line, but you never heard that from me.” The writer doesn’t specify whether the project will be for film or television, though that may simply indicate how early the project is in production. As such, Millar does not provide a possible release window either.
So yeah, don’t hold your breath. I’m sure Marvel would like to introduce the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool before jumping on the zombie bandwagon in their films.
Lets wait and see how the MCU handles their interpretation of Blade first before seeing any other superhero horror movies…
