The first images from next year’s SCREAM were debuted by Entertainment Weekly, featuring Sidney, Dewey, Gail, Ghostface, and several brand new faces.
The film is billed as a relaunch of the franchise. It also serve as the fifth installment of the Scream franchise. It is scheduled for release on January 14, 2022.
It was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, serving as writers on the project. Additionally, Kevin Williamson is set to be credited as the executive producer alongside Chad Villella. Principal photography commenced in Wilmington, North Carolina on September 22, 2020 and ended on November 17, 2020.
David Arquette is reprising his role as Dewey, Courteney Cox is back as tabloid TV reporter Gale Weathers and the original voice of Ghostface, Roger L Jackson, will be heard in the movie.
Plenty of newcomers will be joining Scream too, including The Boys’ Jack Quaid, Jane the Virgin actress Jenna Ortega, 13 Reasons Why’s Dylan Minnette and The Leftovers’ Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Courteney Cox explained earlier this year that while Scream does follow the events of 2011’s Scream 4, it isn’t exactly a direct sequel to that movie.
So it’s not a sequel or reboot? I guess we’ll find out what the hell it is next year…
