The Feast is a modern folk-horror, filmed entirely in the Welsh language. It follows a mysterious young woman who arrives at a remote house in the Welsh mountains to serve guests at a dinner party. However, it quickly becomes clear that this will be the guests’ last meal. Starring Annes Elwy, Steffan Cennydd, Lisa Palfrey, Sion Alun Davies, and Caroline Berry, The Feast is directed by Lee Haven Jones.
One evening, a wealthy family gathers for dinner at an estate in Welsh mountains. The family invites two guests, a business man and a neighbouring farmer whose intent is to secure a business deal to mine in the nearby countryside. That very evening, when a mysterious woman arrives to be their waitress, the family’s beliefs and values are questioned as her quiet yet unnerving presence begins to change their lives, the consequence of which are slow and deliberate murders.
David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter had praised the film’s visuals, calling them “elegantly creepy”. He also praised the acting, which he called “solid”, in addition to which, he added that “splashes of gore and the novelty of Welsh-language horror should hold the attention of genre lovers”.
The Feast releases on November 19, 2021 on demand and in theaters.
