Netflix occasionally delivers some gems with their original movies. This is not one of them.
The film is directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, written by Richard D’Ovidio and starring Kate Siegel, Jason O’Mara and Dulé Hill.
O’Mara plays a sadistic hypnotist who stalks his clients by implanting trigger words in their heads. Through phrases and suggestions he is able to completely control his victims and even make some believe they are being killed by projected situations.
It’s a great idea for a film, too bad it was already done much better on Netflix’s Jessica Jones series. O’Mara feels really miscast here as he pivots back and forth between Bond villain and over the top Lifetime movie villain.
But the film isn’t a complete loss, The Haunting’s Kate Siegel is the main protagonist who is being stalked by the hypnotist. She is an amazing actress who always puts on an acting clinic in anything she is in. She’s just too good for this film.
Hypnotic overall is a better as a concept than an actual movie. It had potential to be something better than what it actually turned out to be. Maybe I can be hypnotized to believe this is a good movie. Yeah, maybe I’m a Chinese jet pilot.
HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience says pass on Netflix’s Hypnotic.
Yup, pretty much sums it up…
