Those who are dying to see what writer/director Mike Flanagan has in store for us after “Midnight Mass” might be excited to know his next project! He is adapting Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.” Flanagan is assembling a stacked cast for this one.
The cast features Oscar nominee Frank Langella, Mark Hamill, Flanagan regular Carla Gugino, Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell and Carl Lumbly ( who work with Flanagan on “Doctor Sleep”). Not to mention Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, T’Nia Miller, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Igby Rigney, Robert Longstreet and Annabeth Gish — all of whom appeared in Hill House, Bly Manor and/or Midnight Mass.
Langella will be playing Roderick Usher, the towering patriarch of the Usher Dynasty. McDonnell as Madeline Usher. Madeline is playing Roderick’s sister and the hidden hand of the Usher Dynasty. While Lumbly will play investigator C. Auguste Dupin. The characters of Hamill and Gugino were not announced.
The Fall of the House of Usher will span eight episodes, with Flanagan and frequent collaborator Michael Fimognari each directing four installments. Flanagan also will write the scripts. The limited series will mark Flanagan and producing partner Trevor Macy’s fifth project at Netflix.
