As expected Michael Keaton has joined the cast of DC’s HBO Max original film “Batgirl” which has begun filming. This pretty much confirms Ben Affleck’s run as Batman will end in the multiverse “Flash” film. This makes sense as when Keaton was announced to be returning for “The Flash”, it was also mentioned that he would be a Nick Fury type for the DCEU and would mentor Barbara Gordon.
He joins a cast that sees Leslie Grace (“In the Heights”) as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Oscar winner J.K. Simmons reprising his role of her father Commissioner James Gordon, Brendan Fraser as the villain, Firefly, and Jacob Scipio (“Bad Boys for Life”) in an undisclosed role. The duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Bad Boys For Life”) are directing from a script by DC golden girl Christina Hodson, who wrote “Birds of Prey” and the upcoming “The Flash” film.
Birds of Prey was an unimpressive mess and hopes for the Flash film are lukewarm at best right now. As WB moves quickly to erase any memory of the SnyderVerse, they might be doing more harm than good.
The Suicide Squad debuted with a thud at the box office despite premiering to impressive streaming numbers on HBO Max. As fans continue to beg for more SnyderVerse WB is playing a dangerous game giving fans what they THINK they want.
The race to keep up with Marvel has ended, now the DCEU will just be lucky to stay relevant with fans.
