After ringing in the New Year on her NBC New Year’s Eve special co-hosted by Pete Davidson, titled Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, the 29-year-old singer lost her top during a performance of her hit song “Party in the U.S.A.,” sending her backstage to quickly improvise and throw on a red blazer all while continuing to perform in front of a live crowd.
Cyrus was off stage for less than 30 seconds before returning in a red blazer she had worn earlier in the show.
“Everybody’s definitely looking at me now,” she quipped, slightly amending the lyrics to “Party in the USA” as a reference to the wardrobe malfunction as the crowd cheered.
“I’m still in the most clothes that I’ve ever worn on stage,” she added, seemingly unfazed by the incident.
Miley’s New Year’s Party, which was co-hosted by Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson and filmed in Miami, had aired live on NBC and was also live-streamed via Peacock. It was a scaled down event due the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which caused some guest cancellations, and it also marked the first time since 2017 that Carson Daly hadn’t hosed the network’s New Year’s Eve coverage.
