Mega music star The Weeknd is dropping an all new album this Friday!
The once-underground R&B singer-songwriter, born Abel Tesfaye, took to social media on Monday to share the news of his forthcoming release. “New album : dawn FM // january 7th,” he captioned a cryptic video teaser with snippets of new music.
Billed as “A new sonic universe from the mind of The Weeknd,” Dawn FM will feature collaborations in some form with Quincy Jones, Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Oneohtrix Point Never and actor Jim Carrey. Further details about the guests were not provided.
In a message he posted on Instagram last week, the Weeknd wrote, “Music can heal and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people.” Although Carrey’s role in the album is unclear, the Weeknd has noted that the pair are telescope buddies.
Last August, the Weeknd shared his first track since 2020’s After Hours, “Take My Breath.” The song’s strobe-heavy music video was pulled from Imax theatersshortly before its release over concerns that it could trigger epileptic seizures.
