Dexter New Blood gave fans the proper ending to the series it so richly deserved.
For Dexter Morgan, a normal life or happy ending was never in the cards. Dexter is a character that was always shackled to his dark passenger, his serial killer addiction.
Dexter: New Blood is an American crime drama mystery miniseries developed for Showtime as a continuation of the series Dexter, developed by original series showrunner Clyde Phillips and directed by Marcos Siega. The show features Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter reprising their roles as Dexter and Debra Morgan, respectively, alongside new cast members Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller and Clancy Brown. The story is set 10 years after the events of the original series finale “Remember the Monsters?”, which was broadcast in 2013.
Honestly the most noble and selfless thing the character even did was give his son, Harrison, away so he wouldnt be corrupted by his darkness.
But the past always has a funny way of catching up with you. No matter how far you go or much you try to hide your sins in the dark eventually everything is brought to the light.
When Dexter’s now teenage son shows up just as his dark passenger rears it’s head again, it’s a perfect storm of dysfunction.
Jack Alcott, who plays Harrison, comes across as both someone who probably shouldn’t be trusted and a naive, innocent kid just trying to reunite with his dad.
Michael C. Hall slips back into the role of Dexter like he never left. I liked how the show depicted this older Dexter as someone who still stuck to his code and methods but was woefully out of practice and made crucial mistakes.
Big ups to the writing team for bringing back Jennifer Carpenter to reprise the role of Debra Morgan. I hated how they killed her off in the series finale so seeing her come into play here as a judgmental spectre who haunts Dexter throughout the mini-series was a nice touch.
A lot of fans are hung up about the Sopranos/Breaking Bad-like ending of the last episode but honestly, the name of the mini-series should have let you know where the story would eventually end up.
The mini-series was never meant to be more than what it was and what was was a proper ending for the Dexter Morgan character and a love letter to the fans.
In closing HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience highly recommends that you check out Dexter New Blood streaming on Showtime.
