Lost in the shuffle of all the new shows and various streaming services is a dozen or so hidden gems that fall through the cracks and may not get the proper love and attention they deserve.
Peacock’s “Wolf Like Me” is one of those shows.
The series stars Josh Gad and Isla Fisher who play Gary and Mary. A series about two people being brought together who have their own significant emotional baggage isn’t an original concept, unless one of them happens to be a monstrous beast when the full moon rises. And that’s what sets this show apart from the plethora of dramedies like it. It’s a Dramedy with aspects of horror and gore.
Gary is a widowed father whose young daughter suffers from severe anxiety attacks. When they are involved in horrific car accident they meet the sweet but oft putting Mary. When a series of events keeps bringing Mary and Gary together, the two begin to fall for each other despite Mary’s hot and cold approach.
When Gary learns of Mary’s secret, the series really begins to take off.
The show is best described as 500 Days Of Summer meets An American Werewolf In London. It’s not too overly quirky or over the top gory but somewhere in between. Plus big ups for the large amounts of Queens of the Stone Age music that plays throughout the season and also plays a role in the series as well.
At a mere 6 episodes, Wolf Like Me is a fast paced series that will leave you begging for a season 2. Gad and Fisher have really good and believe-able chemistry and I would love to see what a second season delve deeper into Mary’s past.
HipsterZOMBIEJoint Experience highly recommends checking out “Wolf Like Me” streaming now on Peacock.
