The Tony Khan spending spree continues over at All Elite Wrestling. Khan might not have been able to outbid McMahon when it came to names like AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens (all wrestling stars whose contracts were up but resigned with WWE recently) but Khan has taken to signing up and coming talent WWE failed to cash in on. Like Keith Lee, Malakai Black, Brody King, and tonight, Buddy Matthews. Matthews might not have the star power of an AJ Styles but he does have every bit of the talent and he showed it on Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite when he debuted as the latest member of Malakai “House of Black” faction which already what the Dark Order wish they were but haven’t been able to escape jobber/joke status.
Midway through the show PAC and Penta Oscuro (Pentagon Jr’s previous alter-ego from Lucha Underground) successfully beat Malakai Black and Brody King while Penta prevented Black from spraying his black mist, only for the lights to go out. Matthews then appeared in the ring, prompting Black to look like he’d just seen a ghost (calling back to the eye injury Matthews gave him during their WWE days). But Matthews then snapped on PAC and Penta, revealing he was the new member of the House of Black that was teased last week.
The signing of Matthews just confirms what Khan said a few weeks back. With a lot of contracts coming up soon he won’t be able to resign everyone. Thankfully the jokes on the roster and talent that has been relegated to Youtube shows might be gone sooner than later.
