Fede Alvarez, who is known for his excellent “Evil Dead” remake and his brilliant “Don’t Breathe” will direct a new “Alien” film that will be produced by 4 time Oscar nominee Ridley Scott. Ridley as most know directed the original classic from 1979 and came back to direct the less than great “Prometheus” and “Alien:Covenant”. I’m personally glad that Ridley is taking a step back from directing it, I want a newer voice to tackle the franchise that has been stale since Alien 3.
Details are being kept under wraps for now but the film is said not to be connected to any of the previous films. In a smart move, Disney is developing the film for Hulu, which is good in terms of cost cutting. It’s similar to their approach with “Prey”; the new film in the “Predator” franchise that will arrive in Hulu later this year.
Both franchises are iconic in the cultural zeitgeist but need some new blood injected into it after a few failed sequels and a disappointing crossover series of films.
You can catch Alvarez’s latest feature, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on Netflix now and be sure to check out our review of that film here.
