For a show that is ending it sure is getting a ton of spin-offs. The Walking Dead is in the second part of its “final season trilogy.” But so far we already have heard whispers of a Daryl & Carol series, an anthology series titled “Tales of the Walking Dead” and now we got word of yet another spin-off set to star Maggie and Negan titled, “Isle of the Dead.”
Lauren Cohan & Jeffrey Dean Morgan are set to reprise their beloved Walking Dead characters in a series that follows Negan & Maggie traversing through a post apocalyptic New York. The Walking Dead writer/co-executive producer Eli Jorné serves as executive producer and showrunner for the first six-episode season, with Cohan, Morgan and The Walking Dead Universe Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple also executive producing.
“This is a very big day for the expanding universe we are building around The Walking Dead,” AMC Networks President of Entertainment and AMC Studios Dan McDermott said. “It not only adds another compelling series to this collection, it extends our storytelling around two unforgettable characters fans have grown to love, hate or hate and then love in Maggie and Negan, brilliantly inhabited by Lauren and Jeffrey. It also lets us explore a corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.”
Isle of the Dead arrives on AMC and AMC+ in 2023.
