The reboot of Red Sonja might be dead before a single frame has been shot.
Millennium Films has reportedly lost its lead star, as Ant-Man and the Wasp actress Hannah John-Kamen departs the project. While the Marvel star did assure fans that the Red Sonja movie was still in development as recently as last year, a new report from The Illuminerdi claims John-Kamen has now dropped out.
“Sadly, our sources say that Hannah John-Kamen has fallen out from the film and the production team is looking to cast a new actress for the lead role of Red Sonja,” the report reads. A casting call has now begun, with production “open to anyone from anywhere, and ideally, she is 5′ 8″ or taller. But the most important aspect for the role is the ability to perform action sequences, as action is crucial to the role.”
To make things worse, Director Joey Soloway has also dropped out. Although Red Sonja has apparently lost its star and director, the sword and sorcery adaptation has retained writer Tasha Huo. Huo penned several episodes of the upcoming prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin on Netflix and is the showrunner for the streaming platform’s Tomb Raider animated series, which is currently in development.
Millennium Pictures first announced Red Sonja back in 2017 and confirmed the film would be a reboot of the property unrelated to the 1985 box office bomb, which starred Brigitte Nielsen.
