Dave Grohl and his bandmates from the alternative rock band the Foo Fighters have made a laugh out loud gory horror film that is heavily inspired by Argento and Fulci horror films of the 70s.
Studio 666 is a 2022 American comedy horror film directed by B. J. McDonnell and written by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes, based on a story from Dave Grohl. Grohl stars, alongside his Foo Fighters bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee. Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin co-star for the ensemble cast.
When the band wants to make their 10th album something special and not just another cash in. They decide to record an album in an alleged haunted mansion but what they don’t know is that the closer they come to completing the album the closer they come to a unleashing a demonic entity within the house. For Dave Grohl and his bandmates who aren’t professional actors they pull off a pretty decent performance for a horror movie. But honestly the star of the film here is of course the music which is kind of not really Foo Fighters-esque but falls somewhere between the lines of something that Metallica or even The Sword would produce. As mentioned before the gore in this film is outrageous it is so bloody and so gory that it might turn a few people off who aren’t ready for the intensity and where the film goes with it. In conclusion Studio 666 is a hilarious horror movie that doesn’t ever really try to take it self too seriously and that’s part of its charm.
My only real big critique that I have for this film is the fact that towards the end it tends to drag on a little too long but besides that it’s an overall fun film that’s worth checking out on VOD now. Recommended viewing.
