The craziest things continue to happen in around the DCEU. The Flash film, which was supposed to come out this year, was punted once again to next year. Star Ezra Miller then went off the deep end and threatened to kill the KKK and a young couple. Now the Warner/Discovery merger is rumored to not only bring changes to the DCEU, but completely overhaul it. We aren’t talking soft reboot who re-castings either, but rather starting from scratch with a new a clear vision with a new team of creators/directors who all share the same vision. Like the MCU.
However, until that happens we still have what is left of the DCEU film slate, and on that is the Flash solo film. One of the biggest things surrounding the Flash film is the fact that the scarlet speedster will be traveling through the multiverse of the DCEU. Like the comic book story, “Flashpoint,” the Flash will travel back in time to save his mom from being murdered which has drastic effects on the DCEU. Superman is replaced for a Supergirl and Batfleck is replaced by an elder Michael Keaton returning as the Batman from the 1989 film series.
The plan was at the conclusion of the film, the status quo would be forever altered with Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck) being “erased” from continuity and replaced by Supergirl and Keaton’s Batman.
However, now that the Warner/Discovery Merger has happened that could change again. Either way, today we got our first look at the new Michael Keaton Bat-suit in the Flash film. It looks similar to the one he will sport in the upcoming Batgirl film. The new design has callbacks to the original 1989 costume with some designs that look inspired by the Christopher Nolan Batman costume. Check it out below:
The Flash is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced by DC Films, Double Dream, and The Disco Factory, and set for distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is intended to be the fourteenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash alongside Ron Livingston, Michael Keaton, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Sasha Calle, and Ben Affleck. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, which brings unintended consequences.
The Flash is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 23, 2023, following multiple delays caused by the director changes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
