This is an interesting turn of events. After leaving the “Fantastic Four” gig, it seems that Jon Watts is staying not only in the Disney family but in the franchise game as he will be creating and producing a new Star-Wars series for Disney+. Watts is best known for directing the Tom Holland “Spider-Man” trilogy and while I love those films, I don’t feel he has a very visual style so I’m a tad worried that he will be the main creative force behind this series. He will work on the series with screenwriter Chris Ford which will mark the duo’s 4th collaboration as Ford has written “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, “Cop Car” and “Clown”.
Not much plot details have been given at the moment however, the series is said to have an Amblin feel set in a galactic worl. For people that aren’t familiar with Amblin, it’s Spielberg’s production company. Basically the series from what I gather, will most likely have a vibe similar to “The Goonies”, “E.T.” and other classic Amblin productions from the 80’s. The series will take place during the same timeline as “The Mandalorian” and will center on 4 pre-teens as Watts is currently looking to cast four actors around the ages of 11 to 12 years old.
