Star Wars newest series, Obi-Wan debuted last week on Disney+ and looks to be a pretty engaging show after debuting the first two episodes. But a narrative by the media is quickly being spun around the actress who plays Imperial Inquisitor, Reeva, played by Moses Ingram.
So far the character has been a pretty interesting antagonist in the series and I suppose certain people might accuse her casting as “virtue signaling” but I don’t see that as being the case here. No matter how much the media may want it to be portrayed by egging on the lowest of the low trolls on Twitter. Disney tweeted out some clap-backs and even star Ewan McGregor responded with a video:
We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist. pic.twitter.com/lZW0yvseBk

No the real reason behind the hate for the character of Reeva began when a spoiler leaked a month before the show even dropped. If you don’t want to know about the spoiler and why fans are REALLY upset with the direction of the Reeva character stop reading now…..

Ok if you are still reading I am assuming you are okay with a MAJOR spoiler that changes how you will perceive the character of Obi-Wan.
Now mind you, Obi-Wan got pushed back originally due to the series having to be largely rewritten because Lucasfilm wasn’t thrilled about the creative output and direction. It’s not known if this spoiler takes place in those discarded scripts or if it takes place in the actual series. Fans on the internet are leaning towards the fact that it was kept in the final script.
So basically the character of Reeva has an entire character arc that allegedly overshadows Obi-Wan. We saw this earlier this year with a bait and switch being committed on the much maligned Halo show (Master Chief taking a backseat in his own show). Reeva is said to turn good (sort of) after finding out Luke Skywalker’s heritage and going to his home on Tatooine. She chooses not to kill him and when confronted by Vader she choose a noble death as opposed to giving away Luke’s location.
Now why fans are pissed about this isn’t because of the skin color of the actress. They are pissed because this makes Obi-Wan look like a complete failure. He allows Reeva to literally almost kill Luke due to his incompetence and this changes how fans will now view him in the Star Wars films. He is supposed to be the best of the Jedi, the ideal hero. Instead he can’t even keep his secret to keep the twins safe and later on all he does is lie to Luke and brush it off as “a certain point of view.”
Star Wars fans have already had to endure the Skywalker Saga coming to a disappointing close now they want to make a throwaway POC character the real hero of the franchise while Obi-Wan just looks like a punk in his own show?
That’s not racism, thats fans tired of hack writers shitting all over their heroes.
But I would suggest watching the series, giving it a chance and just see how the story play out. And to those that would hurl racist comments at an actress who just got a gig in the biggest franchise of all time, just stop. Hurting this actress with cruel tweets is just unnecessary and low. On the flip side, Disney and whoever runs their social media needs to quit egging on the lowest common denominator, it makes them no better.
