DC comics has been a punching bag as of late, diving head first into work politics and alienating what little actual comic book readers it had left. However, the company is looking to rebound with its latest Crisis event series, “Dark Crisis.” In the wake of killing off the entire Justice League, the first issue of Dark Crisis delves into the aftermath of such an event and how the remaining heroes react to the tragedy.
But with tragedy comes opportunity, and Deathstroke and a cabal of villains take advantage of the situation.
At the end of Shadow War Omega,we saw a resurrected Deathstroke after being killed by Talia Al Ghul, courtesy of the Lazarus Pit with, it seems, a contract from… somewhere to kill… everyone. The Great Darkness, perhaps? With the Society of Super-Villains resurrecting him and serving him.
The best way to stop a spark of heroism is to extinguish the one left behind to pick up the slack. In this case, The Teen Titans. Often seen as a stepping stone to the Justice League.
There are no elaborate traps. No riddles to solve. No games to play. Just Deathstroke, The Terminator, doing what assassins do best. He destroys Titans Tower and his gang capture Beast Boy. Deathstroke doesn’t waste anytime here. Like he did with the Freedom Fighters in the first issue of Infinite Crisis, Deathstroke kills a hero, this time Beast Boy with a bullet to the head.
Can you shapeshift your way around that, Beast Boy? Dark Crisis #1 is published by DC Comics on Tuesday, the 7th of June.
