Last week it was announced that Todd Philips & Joaquin Phoenix would be returning for a sequel to the highly acclaimed “Joker” film. Now we have two huge tidbits of info that is starting to possibly form what kind of film this sequel will be.
It’s allegedly going to be a musical.
And music icon, Lady Gaga might be taking on the role of one Harley Quinn.
The sequel’s alleged title is Joker: Folie à deux. In English, the subtitled phrase translates to “shared psychosis,” and often refers to a psychiatric syndrome involving delusions being transmitted between two people — such as the Joker and Quinn, perhaps.
Philips’ Joker film, like Matt Reeves The Batman, is set outside of the DCEU shared universe of films. So Margot Robbie who plays Harley in The Suicide Squad is completely different and not connected to whatever interpretation of Harley Philips has in store.
Phillips previously produced A Star Is Born, the 2018 remake that starred Joker producer Bradley Cooper and Gaga.
Of course this isn’t the first time Gaga has been tied to a DC character. She was considered and even offered the role of Black Canary in the Harley Quinn & The Birds of Prey film but ultimately turned down the role. The role of Black Canary eventually went to actress Jurnee Smollett.
