Blumhouse Productions CEO Jason Blum is looking to purchase the rights to two major horror franchises, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th,” and he wants to bring the legendary Robert Englund back as Freddy Krueger for one more movie.
While promoting “The Black Phone” this week (in theaters June 24), Jason Blum spoke about Robert Englund, saying he is confident he could get him to come back and play Freddy Krueger in one more Elm Street movie, despite how outspoken Englund has been about not being willing to reprise his iconic role again at age 75. Blum was quoted as saying “I could make him come back. I can get anyone back. I mean, Ellen Burstyn was 87, and I got her back in The Exorcist.“
Say what you will about Blumhouse but one they do and excel at is taking chances. Halloween was a franchise many thought was dead and look how it has come along and reclaimed the month of October. I
I have faith in Blumhouse to give us a quality Freddy film and send the demonic quipster off in bloody fashion. But I am also very intrigued to see what Blumhouse could do with a Friday the 13th reboot too.
