SDCC 2022 delivered some amazing news regarding upcoming film, comics, and movies. However with the excessive sensory overload of it all some news falls between the cracks. Now if you grew up a red blooded, American male who loves blood guts and boobs you probably at some point stumbled upon the mature rated fantasy/rock animated film, Heavy Metal. The film and magazine was like a gateway drug for kids who grew up to become Hollywood creators and now HM is back. Just in time to kick this Nancy generation of cry babies right in the dick!
Heavy Metal Entertainment, the long-running science-fiction, fantasy and horror publication, has announced the Metalverse, an ambitious slate of live-action and animated television shows and films.
Heavy Metal’s President and Head of Studio Tommy Coriale presented the sizzle reel during the company’s Forging the Future panel at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con. The publisher, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary, is known for being the home of the legendary illustrated Heavy Metal Magazine and the source for the cult classic animated film Heavy Metal (1981). The sizzle reel featured new live-action test footage of Taarna and inspirational clips that bring to life a whole slate of adaptations from Heavy Metal’s vast IP library, including Stephanie Phillips’ Taarna, George C. Romero’s Cold Dead War, Matthew Medney’s Dark Wing, Blake Northcott’s Arena Mode, Medney and Bruce Edwards’ The Adventures of Adrienne James, Dylan Sprouse and Joe Harris’ Sun Eater and Brendan Columbus’ Savage Circus.
The company is developing a lineup of film and television projects under its studio division Heavy Metal Studios.
“Just as Heavy Metal Magazine changed the way the world looked at comic books, and how the ’81 animated film Heavy Metal changed animation forever, Heavy Metal Studios is about to take the reins on live-action content and push it far past its current stagnation and into new heights,” said Coriale. “Things will never be the same again, again.”
I for one can’t wait to see what comes from this….
